The Dubai folks have done some structurally amazing things along their coast - dredging the shallow water and creating artificial sand bars in the shape of things that are really only fully appreciated with aerial photography. Case in point, the Palm Jumeirah development. Slightly less than 9 square miles. Packed with condos, hotels, etc - second photo was taken by the International Space Station.
