So, if anyone would have told me a few years ago that Timor-Leste would be on my list of countries to visit, I would have been surprised. But, here we are. They have had an extraordinarily tough recent history, with civil wars and throwing off their history of Portuguese colonialism, not to mention the bitter conflict with neighboring (and dominating) Indonesia.
