The cathedral in Cusco was built on top of a sacred Inca site. Our guide Juan Carlos explained just how amazing it was for an ancient culture to be able to build stonework like this, no mortar, with seamless joints between stones. The 3rd pic is looking through 3 walls, with identical openings in each one.

Yeah, just that last sentence, with no pictures, took almost 10 minutes to upload. Guessing pix will have to wait until we’re back in a better internet situation.

We’ve flown to Cusco, and before I start trying to upload pix and write details.....we’re at nearly 12,000 feet of altitude in the Andes, and wifi is now, understandably, a little hit and miss. If I should go radio-silent for a day or two, don’t panic, I’ll just do the best I can.

Beautiful grounds at the Museum. Due to an odd convergence of ocean currents, it virtually never rains in Lima. Our guide said it last rained in 1970, and apparently that’s not a complete exaggeration. Anyway, you’d never know it from the way they maintain gardens and landscaping.

Just a warm-up day, went for a walk around the coastal neighborhood & checked out the hang gliders. Oh, and a wonderful Peruvian roast duck breast on spicy rice, with quail eggs.

By the time we got into the Lima hotel it was nearly midnight. This morning, we realize we have a pretty nice view, looking out toward the Pacific.

No volcano pics, as it was completely fogged in and drizzling, as is so often the case. But Marty got a great shot of the Waipi’o valley as we came back around the north end of the island, headed home.

Road trip!

Well, nothing like the 7,422 miles on our 2 road trips in ‘18, but...

Barbara’s sister Marty is here visiting for a week, so we’re headed to the volcano and Hilo-side. 

Btw, we flew out of LAX exactly seven weeks ago yesterday, and in the meantime never ONCE did we turn on a television. Utterly glorious. (other than the Dodger baseball part, of course)
