Zebra babies are conspicuous by their more brown (rather than black) stripe color, and general fuzziness.

For those enthusiasts about such things, hyena droppings are white and elephant droppings are, uh......big.

A few miles away from the male, a couple of lionesses doze with their 7 cubs. We are told lions sleep about 20 hours per day.

“You could be next, y'know”.

Five minutes after leaving our camp early the second morning, we came across this large male lion, who had just killed a warthog within the hour.

As if the rare leopard sighting wasn’t enough, we then found the equally rare cheetah. We watched her from a distance for quite a while. When a nearby approaching herd of elephants chased her away from them, she seized the moment of chaos, chased down a small gazelle, and enjoyed the meal. We were told she has 5-6 cubs hidden away in the nearby trees, after feeding herself she’ll return to them and nurse them.

Ho hum, giraffes, impalas, and water bucks.

Our first game drive on the Maasai Mara produces a hippo right off the bat. Also, among the most elusive and hard-to-find animals is the leopard - we got very lucky.

Mara Intrepids is a tented camp, although the word “tent” is a little deceptive.

We fly to Tirame (30 mins), clear the border from Tanzania back into Kenya, and then fly (20 mins) to our stop in the Maasai Mara.

The Serengeti is spectacular, but it’s time to say goodbye.
