10,000 year old glacial ice, for one’s drink. Doesn’t everyone?

Speeding through the Drake, very smooth. Not sure about the curaçao margarita at the last expedition recap, though.

As we get further north, it becomes warm enough to sit outside. For some, anyway.

For instance - these are identical pix, the same shot: the first one mid-afternoon, and the second one at 10:03p at night. In mid-December (summer in Antarctica), there’s no such thing as a “sunset”, although the sun gets at its lowest to the horizon. Cool colors by day, warm colors by….so-called night. It’s what the lighting does to the same shot. No filters used here.

We’ve just said goodbye to the Antarctic peninsula, and are now heading north toward Ushuaia, the southernmost tip of Argentina. It’ll take us two days to get there, so I’ll go over stuff & pix from the last 10 days, and post what I may have overlooked up until now.

Yesterday we sailed south of the Antarctic Circle, which is a first for me. I overheard some people chatting, who said they had overheard a woman ask a crew member, where the best place on the ship would be, to see the Antarctic Circle as we sailed over it. 🤦‍♂️ I’d like to find her and offer her my picture of it.

We’ve had a bit of bad luck over the last few days - wind/chop/ice conditions have precluded a few landings. That’s just the way it goes down here, not unexpected, of course. Yesterday, instead, the ship offered the “Polar Plunge”. Nope. nope, nope, nope, nope, nope. NOPE.

Just wandering out on deck, any time, can be an adventure.

Yesterday the weather gods decided to throw us a curve. So one could either sing 🎶 “Oh, the weather outside is frightful….” 🎶 or “I’m dreaming of a White Christmas”, 🎶 depending on how you look at it. Did curtail the afternoon landings, just too much wind and chop.
